Early Postive Reviews for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”
May 19, 2008
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. I would have loved to have seen it with that crowd, but I’m not a member of the film community. Plus I have a day job (I mean, this empire’s not going to build itself, right?).
Still, the initial reviews in Entertainment Weekly and Time magazine are positive and that makes me cautiously optimistic. EW’s Lisa Schwarzbaum felt that the movie is a little too bloated with action-filler, but doesn’t hold that against it. Schwarzbaum isn’t my favorite critic, but she’s a professional and I trust people like her and Time’s Richard Corliss over the faceless Internet trolls who think that simply viewing somehow makes them an actual film critic…oh, wait a minute…
Anyway, I’m happy that Karen Allen is back, ambivalent about Shia LaBeouf, and disturbingly excited to see Cate Blanchett in S&M Commiewear (“Indiana Jones and the S&M Commie Chick” may replace “Captain Kirk and The Green-Skinned Orion Slave Girl” as my fourth-date best-case-scenario).
There are some minor spoilers in these reviews, but a lot of plot elements. Purists beware.
Cate Blanchett could wear a burlap sack and look hot. Unfortunately for your hopes for a replacement fantasy, I think I read in Slate that her character does not get it on with Indy.
Is it even a legitimate complaint about an Indiana Jones movie to accuse it of having too much action?
Here, enjoy:
